    Luft dagger....OUCH!

    What to do?
When i bought the collection from the vet's son, this dagger was there.
The son don't know, but i'm guessing the vet ground off ALL swazies
and removed the chain, other then that this would of been a nice 1st model Luft.
Blade is almost mint with a E.F. Horster maker, some small nicks on the edge.
Grip is really nice, scabbard has a small split on one side.
Finding the pommel and crossguard, is it worth it
I guess ebay wouldn't have a problem, or would they?
But who knew back then, not to grind anything!!!
    This is really a shame.
    What would you guys do?
    Regards,
    Gary

In yugoslavia all German daggers had their svaz. grind off or broken, because if you were to be found with them during communist era you will be going to prison. But this guy was in US so that does not make any sense why he would do that.

Well all i can say is he either ground it off himself, or found it this way.
All the other daggers, medals, and other items he left alone.

Realy weird. Why would an American GI ruine his own souvenirs by denazifying them????

Wim, Not knowing just when the items were acquired it's hard to say. I don't remember all of it as it was told to me, but this might have been not immediately after the occupation of Germany, but later. When the de-Nazification process was going on and TR symbols were banned. Regards, FP

Keep it as it is, and sell it to someone who wants to buy it as is. Even if you run it on e bay someone will pull it. You should still be able to get a decent price for it. (more than likely 50% of retail. )Its still a nice dagger.

No chance at ebay. They are fanatic swastika haters They hate "spreading hate"
I wouldn't keep denazified dagger in my collection unless it would be super rare item, but such dagger with nice grip, blade and scabbard still has some value. If someone by chance has matching chain, pommel or crossguard in his inventory, he will be happy to buy it.

Thanks Guys for your advice, i really have no interest in this due to what has happened to it, the grinding and missing chain.
So, would you say around $400 on the estand is fair?
                  Thanks Again
                  Regards,
                  Gary

Sure, you can start at $400 and drop the price untill someone wants it. Free market always shows the real value.
