    German officers dagger (cross guard)

    Hi,
I'm hoping to get your response on this officers dagger. It appears to be a fairly standard eickhorn issue dagger, but i'm not sure about the cross guard? The detail is very sharp and looks a lot nicer than some of the cross guards i've seen in recent years. The dagger overall is decent, with a bit of wear at the top on both sides. The pommel and cross guard appear to be a very good match. But i'm just not sure that it is the one that this dagger was issued with. I would appreciate your responses.
    Thanks,
    mike

Looks like a Generic "A" crossguard. I'm not sure about the pommel. It may have been put together post war.

                        Definitely not an Eickhorn crossguard.

Yes, it is generic type A crossguard that doesn't fit very well with the good ol' squirrel. Sometimes one can find Eickhorns with WKC "tomahawk head" crossguards, as the factories took some parts from each other, but here it is the first time I see generic crossguard with Eickhorn blade. In case of Army daggers all parts are easy to exchange or replace, so everything is possible here, for example bad conditioned unmarked (or other maker) blade replaced with Eickhorn blade or "denazified" Eickhorn crossguard replaced by generic one.

I agree, pieces from various daggers

I'd not buy that dagger simply because being Eickh the most easy to find, I'd search for a 'full' Eick fittings, but anyway generic A cg has been seen many times with Eickh mark, and that scabbard and that pommel to me appears Eickhorn manifacture.
