    Bavarian Chevauleger Sword Clean up

Hello I have a pre ww1 Kgl. Bayer. 1. Chevaulegers-Regt. Kaiser Nikolaus von Rußland
with burgundy Regimental facing color Sword, it has rust in it's blade and scarab. My question would be: How do I remove these rust spots from the etched blade and from the scabarb without damaging nor scratching the blade? Which products to use? How to clean it. Is there a proper technique? Would you use flitz cleaner?
I went to ace hardware and they recommended NEVER DULL (a mild antique cleaner), I decided to wait and ask the community.
After cleaning what should I do to maintain the sword in good condition?
Since the sword is so rare and entrusted to my care, for I'm it's 3 caretaker, I must make no mistakes while cleaning it. Thank you in advance for your help.

I would be VERY careful when using never-dull near the etching. Not so much of a problem on the blade surface, but NOT on the etching. Most here will recommend Ren wax. Flitz is also a good product, but remember it is a polish and will remove material. But for sure, before you do anything, wait for others on this forum to chime in.

Do NOT use polish on the colored portion of the blade as it will remove it. Only polish the un-etched portion of the blade or you will damage any blueing, gilt, etc in the etch.
