SA/SS Rohm Dagger Maker's Mark Question

Hello everyone,

After searching for some time now and not finding an answer, I'm going to go ahead and ask the question.

I have a Gebruder Heller SA Rohm Dagger with some inscription remaining. It has the characteristic smaller maker's mark, located closer to the crossguard. I know Heller did this.

However, my question is this:

Did all makers of SA and SS Rohm Daggers use the smaller maker's mark also located closer to the crossguard? Or, was it just used by certain makers of Rohm daggers? It seems that it would have been necessary to do this on all Rohm daggers to make room for the inscription. However, I’d rather be sure about it.

Wish the answer was simple but as so often happens with German daggers it's not.
Some makers moved the mm closer to the crossguard for all their Rohm production: Henckels, SMF and Wingen to name a few that come to mind.
Some not only moved the maker mark but decided to use a smaller version as well: Aesculap, Heller, Eickhorn
Others left the mark the same location, Pack and Haenel.
Finally I should mention Eickhorn, by far the most common Rohm maker, (they actually made more Rohm's than non-Rohms) used a couple versions. Initial production left the maker mark intact as it was with non-Rohm production, soon afterwards they elected to move the maker mark south and shrink it.
Hope that helps some. The good news is that when one understands the correct location and size of mark it can help authenticate these.

You might also note the SA motto is located further down on the blade than non Rohm daggers
. At least that is the case with the Eichhorn blades.
