    Chip off the Old Book

This is the Buchel pictured in TW's army book on page 102. It's a really nice dagger despite the missing chip. Buchel Armies are not rare and I always wondered why Tom choose this one.

      Phil,

Nice Buchel, it's even nicer that Tom had it pictured in his Heer book. I would agree that Buchel isn't exactly rare but I'd be inclined to say maybe scarce. I can say 5 to 10 years ago, it was a lot harder to find a Buchel. Now not so much but they're still a nice maker to encounter.

        Billy,
I've seen a few recently although I agree with you they still are pretty scarce. Chip Gambino just picked up an army and second Luft from the widow of a vet. Both are near mint, my guess is the GI picked them up at the factory or uniform shop. They are on his site now.

                  Nice dagger Rbminies
If you look with "keen" eye on the first dagger , you can clearly see the difference of the shape of the eagle of the two other daggers including yours.

                    Phil,

I just checked Chip's site, you're right, both a Heer & Luft2 by Buchel. I remember seeing a Buchel Luft2 a few years ago & it was called "ultra rare". I've seen a couple of them since then but still a tough to find mark on a Luft. I did own a Buchel Heer a number of years ago but flipped it to buy something else which the memory of eludes me now. From memory it was quite well made.

I once owned a Heer dagger by Friedrichswerk, sold it too but that was when I was saving for an honor ring. I've never seen another & know Tom W. didn't have one in his Heer book. I sent it to Tom for pics in some upcoming addendum he was working on. Probably should have kept it!

                          Hey Eric,
Yes, I still have the Buchel, it's a keeper.
Billy, I remember when you picked that one up, it really is a one of a kind.

All the Buchels in the pics are generic, mine a "B" the others "A" types. They didn't make many and must have bought their parts from other makers.
