    Clemen & Jung K98 Bayonet

    Gentlemen,

Here is a K98 Bayo that i have had for sometime. I don't know much about bayonets, but there is a plethora of numbers here. A 38 on the spine, which i presume is for the year. A makers mark on one ricasso and a 3218 and an e on the other side along with the mark of 45277 on the ridge. There is also a waffemampt WaA253. On the scabbard it is marked ab43 on the obverse and 2220 b on the reverse. On the catch is the scabbard is marked 45277. My pictures aren't the greatest, but perhpas you can see where these markings are, and let me know what is going on with this bayonet. Thank you for your help.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremiah

Jeremiah, What you have I think is a Clemen u. Jung with a (19)38 date on the blade spine. And a later 1943 dated Mundlos (ab) scabbard. Being a postwar rework with all of the extra numbers (crossguard/frog stud) from Yugoslavia or some other user from that period. Best Regards, FP

I believe FP is correct, only to add the grips are replacement and there is flashguard missing, which are typical marks of Yugoslavian reworks.best regards,Andy
