    Ss dagger opinions please

    Hi All

Can you please give me your opinion on this SS Dagger by Gottlieb Hammesfahr that I am thinking of buying, not sure if the scabbard has been painted.

    Thanks in advance

Mal the scabbard has defo been repainted "orange peel affect" probably done by a spray can not so long ago by the looks of it.....Regards Scott.

      Thanks Scott

Yes I thought it had, the dagger itself doesn't look to bad bar for the water marks at the tip.

The orange peel looks like my car door before it was polished to remove the peel look, so it would probably polish out, ask for a photo in the scabbard see what the fit is like on the throat. Might not be the original scabbard, could be the seller not supplying pics for that reason. As for the rest of the dagger SS isnt my area so i cant say yes or no, iam sure one of the many here will reply asap

          Thanks Evilmike

With the scabbard like this dose it greatly reduce it's value.

          Regards

(non-anodized) painted scabbard lowers the value 40%; otherwise dagger looks original, & good condition.

if its the original scabbard repainted its not soooo bad, if its a replacement, check the fittings to the dagger in the scabbard then its always going to be a niggle, a little water damage but as said condition looks ok... now whether its original that seems to be ok, although not many people commenting on the SS stuff this week they must be all on holiday....

Mal the scabbard to bottom crossguard fit is ok imo i have seen a lot worse than this mate on early SAs as well so i wouldnt worry to much about that. if you buy this dagger use a peice of 1200 grit wet & dry paper lightly to smooth out the orange peel affect on your paint then use some T-Cut to polish the paint back to a nice sheen.......Cheers Scott.

                            Thanks EM

Not a lottery win unfortunately, just a bit of luck and a understanding wife (till see finds out).
I've waited a long time for a nice full set EK1, and that one was worth the wait.

                            Regards
                            Mal

Just received the dagger and it is a perfect fit crossguard to scabbard.
