German Troddel

Can anyone help me out with this troddel?
I got it for free, but i've got totaly no idea if its a repro or original.
And, for what kind of edged weapon it is.

This is a sword knot that I thought was SS attributed, but the following link has some info (apparently from someone who knows Johnson well) that suggests that it might have something to do with the police. Since SS knots are known to show up on police degens where the owner was in both branches, who knows. Take a look here:
