    2nd Pat LW Dagger

    Hi all!

I was offered this dagger today and since I collect other items and only own a 1st Pat LW dagger, I was wondering what you guys think about this one?

These are the only pictures that was provided and I can't see a maker mark. Does the wear seam unconsistent to any of you? The handle seems very nice while the rest looks very worn ( look at the metal parts of the hangers ). A parts dagger?

    Thanks.

    Simon

Picture 9 is the same as picture 8. Sorry!

As far as being original it looks OK to me, but the overall condition is pretty poor. The blade is really beat...

If this dagger remains in it's current state, it won't have much life left. It may be past the point of no return, but until disassembly that cannot be ascertained. It would require signinficant amounts of time and energy to try to bring this example back to life. It can be done, but will be a complex procedure, and will be nearly impossibly to resuscitate her to a point where it appears new. Some of that perm. rust has caused damage.

Me personally, I wouldn't attempt to take on a dagger in this condition. I spent 18 hourse recently working a nice Heer back to life. Difference was that the Heer didn't have the degree of degredation that this one does. It will require the...gulp...S word.... Semichrome and some other stuff to remove that heavy surface rust on the scabbard shell. I can show you some b4 and after photos of the army for comparison if you'd like. Email me if interested.
