My First K98 bayonet. Opinions please.

Hello Forum members.
As my Birthday was some days ago, in my work they give me this fantastic present.
I ussually post for helmets, or photos, but i don´t have any knowledge of Bayonets...

Please give your opinion about this one.
I Hope that it´s original and not fake.

That's a nice birthday-present you got, Santiago! Well done...it seems to be in very good condition. Rest assure this is a 100 % original piece!

It is original, but at some point in it's life the scabbard got switched with the bayonet. Congratulations.

To ad even more history, looks like it might be a Yugoslavian rework, just like they did the K98s. Good piece, but Im sorry to say you are in trouble now. One you have one, you have got to get more Bayonets are even more addictive than firearms because they cost less and they are easier to hide from the wife

Hi,nice upgraded 98k bayo, like Jaeger says, it was missmatched 44fnj made blade and clc1942 bard.Added new numbers on guard and frog stud, they should be matched. best regards,Andy from BCN

I´m really happy now.

And although i was never thinking in buying one bayonet, i know that if i would have one, that one will be a german k98 bayonet.
So i´m very happy now. And more knowing that all, it´s original.
And yes i could hide easier that the helmets.

Well. I have some more questions, to have a bit more knowledge about bayonets.


It´s ussual the ribbeb bakelite grips?. Not is more usual all bard(mango) of wood?.
It´s ussual that the blade is parkerised?.
It´s for special units or it´s for normal units of the Heer?.

They are meant for standard infantry, issued with the K98. The bakelite grips are found on late war pieces, mostly 43 and later. They are somewhat common. Some makers like ASW used wood on the grips later in the war. It pretty much comes down to what was available do to supply shortages. Most late war blades are parkarized instead of blued. Im not sure for the reasons behind this, but it adds more fun to collecting the different types of German bayonets.
