Anyone know Thomas Bauer - REDVIPER ? I purcahsed the naval dagger and straps from him last week (the pictures of which have now conveniently disappeared from the forum...) and when I received it realised it was a 1970s fake !!! I'm hoping the reason Thomas has failed to respond to my emails/private messags is that he's away but.....
And in case of any doubts...I have over 18 naval daggers and know them pretty well, and to back things up I contacted Tom Wittman who kindly took time to point out the following (which I hope he doesn't mind me quoting)
quote
Regarding the Naval - the hangers look good, but the dagger is a 1970s post-war Holler piece. Although you do not show the scabbard length, usually these hammered examples with the screw in the reverse center, will be overall longer than the standard variety - also I do not know of any Naval scabbards that used only a single center placed screw in the reverse - all had two side screws. The darker tone of the pommel is also a give-a-way, as the dagger originally had a pommel that featured an anchor in the center instead of the Hockenkreuz. Better send this one back, Jonathon
end
Cheers
