    Hello FJ George,
appreciate your advice. As it is real, I am now more sad about it's breakage. I want to "fix" it . I actually don't know what you mean about exactly how to put it together. My biggest problem is the end of the tang rusted out and broke inside the pommel nut....so I am a bit at a loss as to just where to start.

For whatever its worth I think it is very much real.
I found one in the newspaper when I first started collecting in the early 80s in the very same condition.
The man was using it as a garden spade, until someone told him "It Was Worth Alot Of Money".
The tang can be repaired and put back together. Thats what I would do.
I wouldnt over restore it. Just reassemble it after tig welding a new piece of metal on the tip and run a tap on it.
I personally like project like this, its fun project to do. I guess its my hot rod roots.
Good luck with it whatever you choose to do

Well if Im looking at right. The tang has the threads broken off. Correct? They are partially in the knob/nut that holds all the peices together.
What I would do is take the top knob and try to back out the metal out off it. Then I would find a fine thread screw that would fit in there.
Find a tap that will go over you bolt.
Then I would weld a new piece of metal the correct length that was broke off. I would use a TIG welder because of the metal and you can weld 2 coke cans together with a TIG. Hence not a lot of heat to warp the metal.
Then run the tap from above over the new peice welded in to the tang.
Then put it all back together in order it came apart.
      I hope this makes sense.
If we lived closer together I would say just bring over to the house and we would fix it in a hour or so.
Maybe you can find a friend who can weld the tang for new threads for you there?
Good luck I hope you can get back together.

Thanks for the deeper explanation and great offer of help.
I fear the hardest part will be the rusted bit of screwtop of tang broken in the pommel nut. It is so corroded away.
Let me see if I can take what you told me and run with it for awhile...later I may get back to you.
Again, thanks for your gracious offer of help.
          --Cheers, Michael
