Me thinks it is an honest DRK hewer, probably Klaas. If you know how to do it right, you can unscrew the grips and see the tang markngs. There should be two kissing cranes stamped. I owned 6 DRK's, and those with lower fitting attached with screws always had Klaas stamping. There should be also GES.GESCH. stamped on the reverse of the blade, right under the crossguard (oval).

Thanks for the input. The eagle is different from the DRK hewer's that I have looked at.

What I observed, the eagle is less defined than on the other type (Lüneschloss). But I must say, that now, looking closely at the eagle it looks indeed a little bit different, than on hewers I have. Strange.

              It's a safe one.

I havn't come accross any convincing reproduction red cross hewers. I'm not sure that any exist.

Not anymore. Someone is doing these really well now. I think they usually come looking BRAND new, with a new brown frog to match if I remember correctly. They're pretty convincing if you don't know what you're doing. Aside from that, I like this one. However, is it missing the lower scabbard fitting screws? If so, knock back the price...

This one seems to have scabbard screws (flat ones) in place. There was a thread on GDC in "repro" section. The fake DRK was well done, just the crossguard was not so good and the frog was "very fake". I think hands on inspection of such hewer would leave no doubts.
