Authentic period SS IMO.
Looks like it had perhaps some fire or smoke damage due to the grip condition.

Thanks for info. What is value in this condition?
Scabbard was bought separatly. That explains diference in condition.

I wish I could be more encouraging, but since the scabbard was purhased separately, we're basically talking about a "parts" piece with a damaged grip and a blade that has clearly seen better days. I would put the value as shown in the $900.00 - $1,000.00 USD range.

My feeling says a value no higher than $500. The blade on this dagger is shot due to the heavy pitting on it. The scabbard is really the only good part about it. Usually I buy daggers based on the blade and the blade only! That is where the largest part of the value is.

If you really want it, I agree with Ed Sunday's value, but I encourage you to follow sdp's advice....forget it.

I try to buy quality items in good condition. If there is a story with this dagger, just remember, it's only a story. You're buying the dagger , not the story. If you ever wanted to upgrade, you would have a difficult(!) time ever moving this piece. Stay away from it. It's not worth your investment at $500!
