    Odd Police dress bayonet??

    Hello forum...

I never had a police bayonet like this before?

First... is it police? Also... what is it worth, more or less?

I am mostly into collecting helmets....

It's in excellent shape... but... does have wear to the spine of the blade. Some corrosion to that area, which I have seen on past bayonets.

    Thanks

A few questions if I may, how is the grip eagle affixed? Is it glued in place or pinned through the grip? Is there any movement to it if touched at all? Is the eagle gilt or aluminum?

I'm inclined to say the eagle looks like it was added as an embellishment although I would feel better saying that after an in hand inspection. The grip plates look to be wood fashioned to look like stag which is correct for a later production piece but I'm unsure about the eagle.

                  Thanks for your comments...

                  Definitely not glued one.

The eagle is slightly smaller than the eagle I normally see on the larger stag gripped police dress bayonets.

                  Here are some close ups.

                  thanks again... Robert

Just a thought but isn't the maker's mark normally on the reverse of the blade?

The Horster TMs of that style seem to be on the obverse side of the blade.
