My new Puma made Heer saber

    My new Puma made Heer saber

    Here's some photos of the latest addition to my small Puma collection. Opposite of the maker mark the blade has a No. 3 on it. Could anyone shed some light as to what that means? What do you guys think of her?

    That's a wonderful example of a heer sabel. Obviosly Pumwerk. Nice maker, nice example. The No3 marking is speculated by Angolia to be a deliniant for the saber model. I don't know if i'd say that for certain. The example on pg. 116 of Angolia is identical to yours, but has the No7 on the blade, obvers crossguard. Angolia claims it may be in regards to the pattern. Again, juding from other examples that are identical, other than numbering on the ricasso, I don't think it is. FYI, your example is an aluminum hilted saber, with what looks to be a blued scabbard. I have a nice Wrangel with a blued scabbard so don't sweat it.

    Perhaps someone else can chime in who has a better answer. Some of Angolias ideas have been challenged since 1988 and better answers have come forth. Don't discount his book, but there is more accurate information out there regarding certain things.

    Anway, congrats on a nice sword, i'd be HAPPY to have her in my saber collection. If you choose to let her go in the future, let me know.
