Engraved Eickhorn Army Dagger

I would like to see the Eickhorn makermark facing the top of the blade. Eickhorn daggers with the trademark facing the crossguard are in 99% of the cases assumed postwar.
However the etch looks very well done, the crossguard has a nice dark silver color. But... In the end I wouldn't buy this dagger with that makermark.
Kris.

Eick Etch
Hi David,
I think the other fellows are correct about the Eick mark. The crossguard looks like a beauty, as I'm sure the grip is too. It's possible the dagger is entirely correct but for the blade.
Did you pay a bundle for it? If it does turn out to be post war, you could always get an Eick Heer blade and have yourself a pretty nice piece anyway. Whatever happens, good luck.

I would tend to agree with Billy G. Get a nice Eickhorn blade and return the (otherwise great) dagger to it's original configuration.
Next, put the etched blade in the 'lessons learned' box / drawer / etc., and look at it every time you begin to think you know it all.
The dagger with a nice-conditioned, original blade would be a welcom additition to any collection!
Best,

Interesting topic. With Sebastian's permission, I'll point you in the direction of a thread on GDC about this piece:
http://daggers.infopop.net/2/OpenTop...4523052337&p=2
This dagger was actually in my possession at one time. Due to the fact that the entire piece exhibited Eickhorn parts, and that the unplated etch is similar in style (but not content) to other unplated presentation blades by Eickhorn, I considered the upside down TM to be a red flag, and priced it accordingly to reflect that red-flag.
I sold it through a third party to whoever owns it now, at a fair price that reflected this red flag and with full disclosure of the red flag, despite the fact that it did appear original in all other respects.
