Any opinions for Shepard on his dagger based on the photos? I'm sure he'd appreciate them.

I'm not an expert, but form what can be seen in the photos it may be OK.
A clearer image of the maker's mark would be helpful.
Someone has taken the piece apart because the blade is in backwards.
The maker's mark should be on the reverse (back) not the obverse (front) of the piece.
This is a mistake that we often see on disassembeled pieces.

Holler is an often forged maker, but most fakes are easy to spot if you know what to look for.
The thermometer should have "More lines than you can count" as they say.
The fakes usually lack that high level of detail.

This is an example of a typical fake Holler.

A genuine Holler will have far more detail as in this example.

Some of our more experienced members may be able to tell if the scabbard and hilt fittings are of typical Holler design.

Thanks Rob. Looks like mine is legit. Wish I had the hangers and the knot that came with it.

Congratulations Shepard. (I hope that you're correct.)
Complete original rigs are hard to come by, but they do exist.
I have only one in my collection.
Many dealers will have an inventory of original accouterments that you can use to complete your rig for display.

Many collectors will try to maintain the integrity of original groupings if possible.
We believe that we are only the temporary custodians of these historical artifacts.

Unfortunately many rigs are broken up by "non-collector" types on ebay in the hope of squeezing more money out of the group.
Some will even disassemble a perfectly good dagger and sell it off in pieces. (Despicable!)

You should post images of any future prospects here for review prior to purchace.
                Good Luck!

Rig looks OK to me. The blade looks like it may have been polished at one point due to the "rounded" appearance of the blade bevels and the maker mark.

A couple small makers (I am brain cramping which ones) actually are known for a factory reversed blade, but not Holler as far as I know.
