Heer Dagger????

I'm new to collecting. I recently purchased a dagger. I have found exact pics online and some say its a soldires dagger and some say its an officers dagger. How can I tell which one it actually is. Also if it does not have an RZM number does that mean its a fake?

Hi Shepard,

The only way to see if your dagger is genuine is to post pictures of it and let us have a look. Make sure they are 100kb or less.
No Army daggers have an RZM number, if they do they are reproduction. Genuine Army daggers have either a maker on the blade (on the reverse side to the eagle) or a plain blade.
Post some pictures and we will get back to you.

Welcome to the forum.
All military personnel were required by regulation to bear arms when in uniform, at time of war.

These daggers were designed to allow officers a means by which to comply with this regulation while in their full dress uniform.
They were more elegant than a pistol, and less awkward than a sword.
An enlisted man in dress uniform would wear a dress bayonet.
Some high ranking NCO's were qualified to were swords, but only officers could wear daggers.

Such a piece might have been worn by most any rank of officer.
He would probably keep the same weapon throughout his rise through the ranks.

These rules did not apply to political organizations such as the SA and SS.

Hope you did OK, risky business the first time you buy if you have not done homework or gone to a reputable dealer. Different than inheriting something from a relative.

I remember my first dagger purchase, it was a fake of course. I had no education, no books, no contacts, no nothing. Kind of funny now, but I was so proud of myself until someone educated me when I showed it off.

I would be really cautious - an RZM-marked Army dagger is certian to be a fake
