                        Lorenz & Fritz,
I'm not a SS dagger expert but I have two of them. What I see off the bat is a big difference in foto #7. This part differs greatly when compared to the two that I own. To be specific the top of the guard near the outer edge is missing a pronounced scallop found on my two. My m33 is an early EP&S and my m36 is an unmarked type 2. Maybe this RZM contractor did not have this feature on his daggers???

One other thing, the cross guards look to be solid nickle. The marking on the blade indicates 1940. I'm under the impression a later dagger like this would have had plated fittings. Maybe a parts dagger??

                        I hope this helps.

                        Sepp

Interesting Piece! For every thing I like I find something I don't. In post six the lower crossguard gives the appearance of plated brass. I've never seen that before. Maybe the photos, but the scabbard looks repainted. That being said, the grip looks okay but it has a maker's mark I've not seen before. It will be interesting to see what others have to say.

Having the grips plated would be period. Can you post a closer pic of the lower guard? It does look like a brass underneath from the pics here.

Photos 6 and 7 make it looks as if there may be some kind of glue, or filler, under the rune button from about the 4 o'clock to the 8 o'clock position. Is that just the photo?
