    Reference Books

I'm thinking strongly about starting a collection of German bayonets, and trench knives. This is an area where I really know nothing about, and wanted to know if there were any good reference books that I could read on the subject.

    Thanks!

For starters, get Seitengewehr: History of the German Bayonet 1919-1945. The book is by George Wheeler - "SCHUPO" here on the Forum and should whet your appetite.

I can thoroughly recommend Wayne Techet's book, "German Etched Dress Bayonets (Extra-Seitengewehre) 1933-1945"

          Roy,
You might also want to check the Bayonet Collector's Network (BCN) forum that is part German Daggers dot com. Lots of interesting discussions and lots of knowledgeable people.

For trench knives get "Deutsche Kampfmesser" by Eugen von Halasz. Covers both WW1 & 2 issue and private purchase. It's in German but with minimal translation work one can understand most of it.
