    Italian San Marco Marine dagger

    Greetings all

I have just aquired this dagger from the N.Z vets son in Christchurch, I have included some quotes from an Italian WW2 site, was wondering if anyone here knew any more about these daggers? It is really quite a lovely piece.

    Quotes follow:

1935 Italian Navy San Marco Marine Daggers. There are two types that were issued and I am looking for both types. First, Regia Marina (Royal navy) dagger with black molded bakelite grip and four finger groves on the handle. Same blade as the MVSN dagger. Second,The Blaskshirts had a detatchment assigned to the San Marco Marines and they had their own dagger. It is smaller than the Regia Marina model. It also has a black bakelite grip but with no finger grooves on the handle and it has a lion head pommel. I will buy any authentic Example. Look out, there are fakes. The key to an original piece is the material that the handle is made of. Handles on period pieces were only made from Bakelite.

San Marco Marines (St Mark Marines, based in Venice), the handle is made from black bakalite and is a styalised lions head with waves, representing venice. A nice piece and not often seen.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I agree and even my wife likes it, and she really hates militaria!

                        congrats!
that's a rare italian marine dagger. Nowadays a lot of good repro are jumping out, while on the contrary the originals are very scarce: due to the fragility of the bakelite handle, the most of them had been broken in the years.

                            Hi !

I also own a dagger like this. A very, very small piece of the grip is broken out.

A Collector from spain told me, the dagger is worth app. 800,-- Euros.

                            800,-- or 1.000,-- Euros, anyway ......

If sombody wants to have it, why not ?

                            Best, Reibert

I´m sure, some collector´s in Italy would pay more than 1.000,-- Euros.
                            I´ll keep my dagger, I hope, You´ll also ........

In 2007, I've seen a pair of these come up on Eban. Neither were correctly described but both finished for big bucks so someone knew what they were. I was unaware there had been recent reproductions of this model but it doesn't surprise me one bit.

                              Nzef,

Did you wind up selling the dagger?
