The sawback has been added at some point. Poorly done at that. Compare with genuine article and the differences become very apparent.

Tony is absolutely correct. This is a postwar rework. The only 'plus' for this bayonet is that it was a “beater” to begin with, and not worth much to collectors. FP

I agree with Tony and FP. This bayonet has been postwar enhanced and the sawback is a fake.

            Karel,

I bet this thing will still saw too! But, here are some reasons it is a fake.

            1. There were no S84/98 made with sawbacks by H******246;ller (fze) in 1943.
            2. The saw is poorly cut as you can see the teeth do not evenly stagger and the points are very close together.
            3. The angles of the cuts are not consistent.
            4. The tops of the teeth are blunt because they were cut too shallow.

            I hope this helps.

            George

Curious where you found this one. Here in Afghanistan there are a large number of WW1 German bayos that are postwar Turk cut downs/reissues from the 30s. Some are original sawbacks, but many are Afghan fakes done to "enhance" value to collectors. The workmanship on the fakes looks just like yours,
              Cheers,
              Johnnie
