    SS NCO Degan

I purchased an SS NCO degan a wile back on the lists that was labeled as restored.
The blade is a paul weyersberg, and the whole of the sword including handed has been heavily buffed. I did notice that the ruins on the pommel are more narrow that the wide, unlike I usually find in photos
My question is was there a variation of ruins similar to this on original swords or have I been had.
    Thanks
    Rob

Never seen a pommel like that, but the grip is the key piece here. Even if somebody faked a pommel, they'd have to have an original grip without insignia which wouldn't be easy to do.

      Here's my pommel...

I also have not seen an example of this pommel type. Perhaps a periord replacement or a one of a kind repair? Nothing in Wittman's book I can find close to it. However the only makers I know of SS NCO degens were Alcoso, both Krebs, Eickorn, WKC, Holler and Dachau. However Paul Weyersberg did produce police degens.

If the pommel cap is "after-market", could it be a Weyersberg police NCO with the grip eagle removed and filled in? Maybe we need to look at closeups of the grip to look for signs of alteration?
