    Saber With Nice Vet Provenance

I was contacted recently by a vets son via email. He offerred me this Eickhorn cavalry saber his father brought back after Europe. After I explained why I collect, etc., he sent along his father's Bronze Star with his name engraved he was awarded during the war. He is also sending me a tour program of the 358th Infantrys theater of operations in Europe progam.

A super nice guys. I got a great lot from this fellow at a very decent price. I have no intention of selling it as I said I wouldn't.

    I just thought I'd share.

    Nice!

Although it still absolutely amazes me that someone would get rid of their father's named medal! A sword, sure, but the medal your dad was awarded for his service in WWII? That's unbelievable to me even if he did appreciate what you were doing as a collector... But, great grouping for you!

I know what you mean. He was very reluctant to sell the sword. His wife is ill and they need the $$ for medical treatment, etc. I don't suspect he has children or any other descndants. He's an older guy, as his father was 34 when he entered the war. The impression I get is that he would rather see a person who has an interest not only in the artifact, but in the story and the person behind it, end up with relevant material. He called me on the telephone and pseudo-interviewed me. I think he was wanted to be sure I wasn't going to flip the sword as I got it at a decent price.

Like I said, he is a very nice and conscientious guy.

          Jon,
No flag in the grouping. Not sure what you are talking about.

Ok, gotcha Jon. Different grouping. That went directly from a Vets family to an antique store in Southern California from which I had purchased it. Additionally, I did not mention where I had acquired it in the listing. I think you got it confused with the fella who listed the NSDAP flag directly above my posting. He mentioned that his flag was directly vet acquired.

This grouping (with the saber) is different and I will be holding onto it.
