In this photo, what exactly is this void that I'm looking at ? For some reason I can't picture what it's suppose to be.

It is the pommel bending downwards.

The thing is that the wood is prodruding up to 2-3 mm thicker than the pommelfitting.

Is the lower scabbard fitting steel nickel-plated too , or in pure nickel (not magnetic ) ?

All three scabbard fittings must be the same cast metal , but you say the fittings are steel-plated , thats curious .

Does anyone else think that the eagle is placed a bit low on the handle- especially in pic #5?

I don't know about the rest of it, but I think the handle is a replacement (repro?).

Well, I'm biased as I have one very similar to this one in grip-thickness
Except all fittings are plated on scabbard & dagger, type 2 chain though.
But the grip is definately wider than the crossguards.
I'll attach 2 pics.
