    HJ Dagger - Opinios Please!

    Hello Guys!

I bought this dagger in a lot, it came amongst other itens, ant it always seemed fake to me. The MADE IN GERMANY inscription in the leather part of the scabbard is what bothers me. Anyway, I would like another opinions about it, to be sure it's original or not. The RZM inscription is almost erased, it's hard to read, I can guess that is written RZM M7/? 1937 (maybe).

Here it goes the pics from the person who sold to me:

The pictures I took of the dagger right know:

    Thanks!!!!!!!

        Hello Santiago, thanks!

Yes, I know some brazilian collectors who make part in this forum. I know only woman on this hobby for moment: me! It's a fantastic hobby and my knowledge is growing up here. I collect a few years (maybe two or three years) and my collection won some special items in 2006. Have been a wonderful year to militaria!

I'm glad to know about the south american collectors. Yes, I speak and write spanish a little bit! I almost travel to Montevideo the last winter. It's a beautiful place, I guess!

So, I have a great dagger in my hands? Lovely! Can you talk more about the piece?

        Thanks!

Scabbard is not legitimate, for a variety of reasons. I cannot tell from the photos if the knife itself is good or not. Clearer photos would help. My gut tells me that the knife is a reproduction piece as well. Usually you would see some less-than-symetrical cutting in the grip checkering area to accomodate the HJ diamond on era legit pieces. The knife pictured seems to be lacking this feature which is another red flag. That's just my humble opinion.

            Hey !!
            thats awesome...
Montevideo is nice, but punta del este, capo polonio, punta del diablo are better, you know for tourists, hehe
And remember, that in montevideo you have a lot of things about the graf spee, as it is sunk here, if you want more info, let me know, and i could PM you.

I dont know what you are looking for regarding more "info"
            But here it goes....
HJ daggers belonged to the hitler jugend (hitler youth) i guess you know what they are (?)
            Well, here you have info:

"The Hitler Youth Knife (German: Hitler-Jugend) was a knife sold to and carried by boys of the paramilitary youth organisation of the Nazi Party that existed from 1922 to 1945. The Hitler Youth wore knives as part of their uniform, which was very similar to those worn by the Sturmabteilung. The knife was also given to those who had passed greatly in minor exams. Hitler Youth knives typically have a swastika emblem on the obverse grip, and an RZM (Reichszeugmeisterei) inscription on the blade. In early 1937, the motto Blut und Ehre! (Blood and Honour!) began to be etched on early knife blades, but this practice was abolished and later knives were produced with plain blades.
After the war, an unknown quantity of Hitler Youth-style knives were shipped to the United States. These imports were made from mostly surplus parts, but the swastika emblem on the handle was replaced with the Fleur-de-lis emblem of the Boy Scouts of America. Knives of this style are still reproduced and sold for recreational use."

            You also have info here:

                Hi Fernanda,
The knife scabbard is without a doubt a post war scabbard. The throat lip as well as the "made in Germany" are kina dead giveaways. I can't give an answer which I am 100% confident in regarding the authenticity of the knife itself. If it were me, based on what I had said regarding the grip diamond, I would pass on it.
Perhaps someone who is better versed on HJs can chime in on this.

I would pass on this one. The scabbard is post war and the grip doesn't look correct either. Just to be clear, I would not want this knife in my collection.

Given the crappy condition of the rest of the knife the diamond looks awful fresh to me, I'd be suspicious. But if you want a certian thumbs up or down we need better pics of the RZM or markers marks. But right now, given the diamond and the fact that it came with a FAKE scabbard I would say it is fake.

I'm afraid it's completly fake. Besides all the remarks of the other collectors, I think that the swastika arms from the HJ-diamond are very poorly and uneven formed. I hope you pay not to much for it.

                          With kinds of regards, Theo

                            Hi Theo,

No! I bought this dagger with many items, included on original EK I Souval, EK II K&Q and another original medals. Another items like a SS Armband was fake and I sold like "replica". The dagger I sold today like "replica" too in brazilian ebay. Original or replica (fake) is dificult to find in Brazil and people buy anything.

This thread is the same example HJ Dagger fake to me:

                            Thanks for all the information!
                            Regards,
