Navy dagger for opinion please and thanks.

Hello all...first of two Navy daggers for opinions if you would. This is an early Navy I believe with etched blade. Tang is marked 534 and Solingen is stamped on blade. Blade is etched with sailing ship motif one side and anchor on the other. Scabbard is hammered brass. Any concerns or opinions as to maker? If more photo's are needed please advise. There will be 7 in this group. Thanks in advance.

                Reference books on order

Hello to all...well, I have the reference books ordered but until they arrive I will still be looking for input on this one. Can anyone assist?

                Thanks,

                Stu

From the photos, looks to be an original dagger. No clue as to the maker, though.

After several trips through Johnson's and Wittmann's books I don't see any imperial daggers with the hole in the grip for the wire. Something about this dagger gives me the willy's. Is just just me or is something just not quite right?

Thoughts on Larry's point about holes?

Any other experienced blade men out there with more thoughts on Larry's point?

                        It's gone back.

Thanks to those that offered an opinion. In the end I wasn't comfortable enough to keep it at the sale price so it went back.

                        Cheers...

I apologize for being late to the party but I have to agree with Larry, there's something about that grip that just rubs me the wrong way. I'm happy you returned it, better to be completely sure.

Grip is not right, it looks new. I see lots of fake 2nd model Navy's with grips like this.

                              Hi Stu W

Sorry I'm so late with my reaction. I think you did the wright thing to send this dagger back. Like a mentioned I don't know much about those pre-TR daggers (however this type was well used into the '30 ) Besides the things that fellow collectors mentioned I also disliked the pommel. These brass made pommels mostly needed some handwork. The one you showed has not much detail. I neither can find scabbards from that time period with just one headless screw at the backside.

                              Regards, Theo
