    1st Pattern Luft for comments.

    First off, thanks to those who have offered opinions on my last couple posts. It's much appreciated.

    Here is a 1st Luft that is without markings of any sort that I can find. I am unable to remove the grip to check the tang. The pommel is frozen in place and I don't want to risk doing damage by trying to force it off.

    Any thoughts as to maker? Authenticity? A way to remove the pommel? 4 pic's to follow.

          Don't monkey with that pommel, or you may be sorry. A good guess would be Weyersberg or Eickhorn on your maker. JR

              That would be the first unmarked 1st pattern that I have seen. Anyone have another?
              At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.'                 I'm with JR, too. Don't attempt to remove the pommel if it appears to be stuck and please don't clean it
