Cleaning Blades, Before & After Photos? Anyone?

I know this is a sensitive topic. I recently purchased some Renaissance Wax, and I was thinking of applying it to the few daggers I own. I also may be purchasing two SA daggers and they seem to be in need of some cleaning. But for the price, it seemed a deal I could not pass up.

In anycase, I'd love to see what Renaissance Wax can do, if anyone out here has documented the results? Also if anyone used semichrome, and can show before and after's I would love the inspiration and tips before I take a crack at my collection.

    Thanks!
    Alex

Show us some photos of the daggers you have and what you're suggesting to do to them. That will give us all a better idea.

Renaissance Wax is great, you really can't do any harm with it. However, you need to be careful on how you use and apply Simichrome.

I have had great success with the Renwax. Works wonderfully on SA wooden grips, leather 1st Luft grips, blades, etc. Like SDP said, be careful with the semichrome. I think there are other cleaners out there that are less abrasive and less powerful than Semichrome. Gottlieb has one listed on his site that may be worth checking out.

        At anyrate, to the Renwax.

here is what I have...maybe more to follow

          Good evening-

These are the only daggers I own. I wish to simply clean and preserve. I bought all the products from the fellow that sells Ren Wax, and want to get going on applying some protective, cleaning products without harming my modest collection.

          first one:

          2nd one:

          3rd one:

I also have a paratrooper gravity knife:

Those 2 Armys look nice. I'd just give 'em a coat of Renwax for preservation and skip any cleaning. That is unless you want the super shiny look. That patina looks nice as it is.

The 2nd mod Luft could use a light cleaning. Light being the operative word. Be careful with your semichrome then give it a coat of Renwax and it should look great.

I cleaned an Alcoso Army about 4 years ago it took this long to get enough patina back to where I could Renwax it and be happy with it.

Personally I wouldn't do any cleaning to your daggers. Renaissance wax would be used at the most. The blades look alright, you should leave the rest but that's just my opinion.

However, out of interest, you may want to check this product out:

(Not trying to entice you though).

                Cleaning..

The 2nd Luft would benefit from a good cleaning as it appears to have a few places on the blade that will come-off when SimiChrome is properly used and then RenWax applied.

The Armys don't seem to need anything except a good wiping down and a coat of RenWax. I use RenWax on all fittings, scabbard, and the grip. RenWax is the best preservative available for all kinds of materials from paper to steel.....

I personally recommend and use a light coat of liquid silicon to my blades after I apply RenWax. I store mine in the scabbards.

Have had zero problem with that so far and feel it helps to chase moisture away a/o keep it out of the scabbards.

Thank you Schon. I feel that sabers look much better when cleaned. Daggers on the other hand, can remain with thier patina and look gorgeous. I love that golden shine on Army swords.
