HELP needed with K.98 Bayonet

I need some help with this mint K.98 Bayonet,I think it might be a repro or postwar made bayonet,it has wooden grips,only makings is on the blade AWS,no WaA markings,numbers or year,the scabberd is not marked at all.

This is a commercial bayonet.. Look on top of the blade and see if there is a Star, or a shallow stamped eagle swastika with a letter which would denote a police bayonet..Aslo look in the muzzel ring area for a eagle swastika B...BILL

Who all were the commercial bayos made for? I am aware of the Portugese and Japanese 98k contracts that bayos were made for.

Johnny, I will list commercial bayonets that I have in my collection, they are for para-military units in Germany during WW2 period... These will be the 84/98lll type commonly refered to as 98k bayonets, police, RP marked for postal Service. There were also bayonets sold to Portgual with the two Mauser rifle contracts, then there were commercial bayonets that had no other markings than that of the maker, so who knows where these bayonets went.. The marked contract ones are police and postal that I have or know of.. I am sure there are others from para-military units......BILL

Thanks for posting the photos Bill,the bayonet does not have any other markings than those I showed on the photo,I have checked the places you did write about,but I cant find any other markings.

Beside the Portuguese contract there was the Spanish contract albeit with polished steel blades. There are marked vintage 1930’s commercial German Railway bayonets, and ex-military R.F.V. marked bayonets, so it’s highly likely that they both got later issues that were unmarked. My experience has been that the muzzle ring marked German Police bayonets were by P. Weyersberg that were much closer to the end of police markings than the beginning. And not too far from when they discontinued the practice entirely with the exception of the R.P. bayonets which lasted longer. That said, the bulk of the later and ‘mid war’ issues most probably went to the German police and security agencies without markings. Which for some makers meant not even trademarks.

PS: My early AWS is towards the end of the marked police issues, but has an Eagle/D on the spine that is not as well struck (legible) as it could be. It also has black Bakelite grips. Which makes me think that the bayonet posted might be one of the mid-war examples which don't have any additional markings and oftentimes have wood grips. FP
