      Very nice condition dagger, Zinger.

The apparent 'enhanced crossgrain' may just be a photographic anomaly due to the light diffusing as it is reflecting back off the blade surface. I don't see any evidence that the blade has been repolished. The motto looks to have a nice even frosted look to it. If we look at the lettering in the motto there is no shiney spots at the point of the ridge. This is where repolishing is most evident on daggers that have been messed with. It is almost impossible to polish a blade, either by hand or more so by power buffers, without affecting this area. Anyone who has taken a pristene blade and polished it with simichrome or even vigorously with a clean rag will know what I mean. The frosting is fragile and easily damaged.

Not all daggers had a deeply darkened motto. Some were lighter in color originally. The coloring of the motto in most cases was the result of the neutralized residue left over from the etching process. Depending on the type of steel and the etching agent used as well as other factors, such as acid strength and temperature, the color of the etch backgroung can vary from very light to quite dark. Few companies took the extra step to deliberately darken the motto. Boker is one that did so.

Without better pictures or seeing the dagger in hand a final determination is hard to do.

      Just some thoughts..
