Help with sword

Hi guys

I'm a new member, recently introduced to this forume ( and think it's a great idea ). Hopefully i will be able to make a worthwhile contribution to it, anyway...

I've been collecting for a while but have little or no knowledge of edged weapons. I'm interested in aquiring a police sword and want to know if there are good fakes of these out there ( do i need to be carefull )
I know the daggers are widely faked but have not read or seen anything on swords
Any help would be appreciated

Suffice it to say that everything has been faked! Hate to welcome you the Forum with that cheerful bit of news, but you've come to the right place to avoid many of the pitfalls.

Your best bet is to buy from a reputable dealer - either at a show or via the Internet. Once you get your new prize, study it carefully and learn what to look for down the road.

One of the best things the new collector on the hunt can do is to attend one or more of the larger shows. The MAX, in Charlotte, NC, is just around the corner (two weeks away, to be exact) and the S-O-S, in Louisville, KY, is only about five months away. Either would be the perfect place to pick up a Police sword or two - as you can, literally, "comparison shop" them. You'll also pick up a lot of knowledge and have a great time.

In addition to Skip's comments, make certain that whoever you purchase it from gives you enough of a return period that you have time to post photos here on the forum for opinions. There are some really knowledgable characters lurking about that can provide a ton a assistance. Welcome to the dark side!

Police swords are not rare to find. I guess you'll find a good one between 600 and 800 usd, at most. I think the lakeside trader has one, and Paul Vondrak can help you out too.
