SS dagger - more info wanted

I found this private. I believe this is an original, brought back from to the US from Europe. The stuff on the blade is vaseline and wipes away easily. The story is, it was kept in a bag with oil and was supposed to be in a great condition.

My question is, can you confirm the originality, tell me more of the maker, type etc. and how much do these realistically go for?
