That date looks more like 1949

Strange looking knife and odd frog, here are experts on combat knifes. With this type of frog is not boot knife. Normal frog for belt probably.

        No...it clearly is dated 1942.

Size is the same as any other German WW1/WW2 Trench/Boot Knife. Most knives of this type had either a clip...or a leather loop for attaching to a belt. Maybe "trench" knife is a more accurate term.

Nonetheless...the scabbard si the exact size and style as the standard knife...but has a small frog stud...which is again, german in style.

the frog is when real, which i have doubts, clearly wrong material doesnt look like natural leather?, wrong sewing, KZL is not typical form of letter code, then it should be army item, the knife it self is a civilian piece, because of DRGM marking, has nothing to do with army. With that hook on scabbard its more likely a dress item, possible the blade is nickeled too?. When the knife is real so mostly interwar period for dress wearing.

It is natural leather. Blade is steel, not nickle.
