    Airforce & Hunting daggers

    Hi
These are just two of a number of items that a uk seller has up for auction at present. I know very little about daggers but do fancy a bid on these if original. I have asked for better pictures but in the meantime I was wandering if you could tell anything from these pictures. I thing the final prices will be in the region of £200/£250 eachIf original, is this a fair price?
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

Hi Andy, I know next to nothing about the huntsmans dagger, but the Luftwaffe example I am sure is 100% bad. It has a large bulbous grip, (which fits badly to the ring above the crossguard) flared ends to the scabbard chape, etc. Always be very wary of any engraved / dedicated blade on Luftwaffe daggers.

          Cheers, Ade.

I would stay away from the hunting piece as well unless there are much better photos. The maker mark appears to be that of Anton Wingen. I don't ever recall seeing a hunting/shooting piece by that maker. May be legit, but if it were, I would have to think seller would be asking considerably more money for it.

              Hi Andy,
Skip is correct about the Hunting Dagger. It has several details that scream post-war. Among the other red flags the trademark is all wrong.

Anton Wingen is a VERY VERY rare maker of DJ faengers. I own one of two known to exist. This girl of mine was found at the 04 SOS.

For what it's worth, here's an AW Jr mark on an early SA...

                  Andy,

The proportions of the Hunting Association dagger are not correct for a Third Reich era piece. The blade is too long and too thin. IMO it's either postwar as mentioned above or an earlier piece "upgraded" somewhere along the way with a Third Reich style DJ insignia in the grip. Either way it's not original.

The Luft dagger? Forget about it.

Both of these are post war editions. The hunting has the TM wrong and the 2nd Luft is very obviously bad.

Many thanks for all your help. The seller has about 6 items all of which he claims were his late fathers and original. I shall contact him accordingly
