German Desk Phone - Handset Question

Is this the correct handset for this German desk phone? The phone is dated 1940, the handset is from a fieldphone. It plugs in and works fine. I can even dial out with it! I thought I had seen at a show in England one time a handset without the long switch on the underside of the handle. Has anyone seen one like that?

It is the correct handset for use with your Ambtsanschlieser. Normally the Ambtsanschlieser would be connected between the public telephone net and the field telephone line. The Ambtsanschliesser would be connected to a normal field telephone using the plug cable, the handset of the field telephone would be plugged into the Ambtsanschlieser, hence there is normally not a handset delivered with the Ambtsanschlieser.
