It could be an unissued, unbadged LW made helmet. I think it's an unbadged ss helmet from the CZ horde near Prague. Thousands were found just like this post war and in some cases they have been badged post war.
This helmet appears to have had the "USA Afrika Army" added post war. There are no holes from any previous badges and the USA would not spell Africa with a "k"
So post war con job.
The USA of course learned to fight the Germans with hard fighting in Africa. Ever heard of Gen Patton ? His legend began in North Africa by defeating the Germans, which until his arrival had not happened.

"Tim you need to brush up on your history, Germany ( Rommel) suffered its first defeat at the hands of the Australians at Tobruk in 41, long before Patton arrived in Tunisia,"
Agree with your point. As i have said many times here. The Diggers defence of Tobruk in the summer of '41 is the turning point of the European conflict. Not Alamein and/or Stalingrad. If Tobruk had fallen to the DAK in April/May '41 the Afrikakorps would have rolled right through to Cairo and into Palestine and beyond. Instead of the invasion of Crete it would have been the invasion of Syria etc...
Sorry guys, i'm talkin about the first United States Army victory over the Germans at El Guettar, March 23 1943
Patton assumed he had beaten Rommel but it was actually Von Arnim's attack with the 10th Pz Div which up till then had kicked the American's ass all over Tunisia.
Patton was very disappointed when he learned Rommel was not in Africa at the time of the attack.
Happy St Patrick's Day

Rommel vs Monty, always an interesting question ? If the DAK had outnumbered the 8th army by 3:1 they would have been in Iraq by the New Year '43....
