The fact that is was made after 1945, likely much after that. J

Please explain what makes it post war. That's why I'm asking questions. I have been looking for pics of postwar ones online and have not come across any yet . feel free to post some links I'm interested.

                    cap

And the plastic strip between the leather sweatband and cap is post-war as well.

I'll let the picture do the talking...BRD! (Bundes Republik Deutschland)
The sweat shield does appear to be plastic...Is it flexible or very brittle (hard)?
You hardly ever see these in WW2 German M43 caps btw...only celluloid sweat diamonds in visors!
Also to grommet is not something you would see on a Period cap unless its GJ (Mountain troops)

                          Hallo fourfifths1911

I think August Geiger of Kiel, Daenischestr. 24, Eingetragene Schutzmarke (Registered Trademark) founded on 1872 (see Wilkins page 321), a war-time maker (licence A1/666), but also a post-war one and so its main customer was the Kriegsmarine and then the Bundesmarine. His logo shows a floating light superimposed over three waves.

These links could be helpful for comparison:

Thou must do more detailed photos for a final verdict. From what I see, in fact, it seems to me a post-war headdress, as the others say.

                          Best regards
