I also bought mine just for the skull.
I also have doubts the cap itself is real but can't be sure.
The cap cost me just 100 euro from ebay.de

Exactly! I bought it for much less than the price of the skull....for the skull. However, because of all of the previous listed reasons....i can't bring myself to disassemble.

I've noted for a long time that there are far more SS trop skulls in the marketplace than trop cap eagles. Hence their appearance on caps maybe just to facilitate a sale....? They look better when sitting on a cap. Whomever did a fair job rendering the cap.
