Let me bypass Richard's post for a minute and go back to the original: if the cap has a non-removable blue top (cf), then what is the extra white top all about??

Nice score. Perfectly matched toning and the white top could have been for a promotion to Leutnant zur See had he survived. In any case, U-341 was a type VIIC 'Front' boat commanded by Oberleutnant zur See Dietrich Epp, based out of La Rochelle, France with two sea patrols & no successes before being sunk with all hands lost. It is possible he never got the chance to wear this cap which explains it's condition and case.

There were two caps that came from the "estate". Perhaps the other one had a removeable top. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to buy both...

Let me understand: there were two caps in the collection, and you bought the blue one with fixed top, and somehow ended up with the removable white top as well? Is that correct?

I've got "U boat fever" of late and I really like that cap!

It was suggested I was mad 2 years ago for paying 1150 for a near mint triple erel Infantry.

That white top, does it fit straight over the fixed blue top. I have heard that some Kreigsmarine chaps just put a loose white top over the fixed blue one to get away with buying a complete white cap.

See if it fits over, it would have to be slightly larger to go over. It would be very interesting if it does fit.
