I'm overwhelmed by all the positive responses, thank you.
I was having second thoughts about spending so much money on a very salty example like this. It's always difficult to judge how much to invest and I don't mind admitting that I lost quite a bit of money on the salty Cavalry Alter Art that I put on the estand recently. It's always a delicate balance between heart and head. I just knew I had to have this one though!
For me, the epitome of the SS in combat can be summed up in the caps that they wore in the field and this one definitely fits that catogory.
Thanks for the period images posted as well, keep them coming! I love looking at them.
Should you ever decide to sell your visor cao, please let me know. I'm in love with it.... so much history.
BTW, how rare are these caps compared to other SS headgear and how many are known?
I know of 7 for sure. Yours and mine, the Shea cap, one in Norway, Regimentals has one, Kelly Hicks' cap and Oakleafmilitaria has a yellow piped one which I'm surprised hasn't sold yet as the price is reasonable IMO for such a rare cap. Much rarer than an SS Generals visor I'd say. The white topped visor has got to be the rarest of all though.

Thanks for the information Ben! I bought mine in the beginning of the 90's for a fraction of the price they cost nowadays. For me these caps are the holy grail. Yours is the best I've ever seen.... As you can imagine I saved the images on my hd.
Anyone interested in these style caps should also read this thread which has more period photos.
I still believe the first cap posted within it has a good chance of being authentic plus I'd completely forgotten about Doug's excellent example, sorry Doug! (ex Wolfe Hardin collection as seen in this photo)
