Need help with Waffen SS NCOS cap

I'm interested in the Waffen SS NCO visor cap that Doug R is selling and I don't know anything about them , It looks good but would appreciate more opinions from individuals that know more than me.

    Many thanks!

Original Hicke eagle and Assmann skull, in fact (unusually) the whole cap looks good to me.

I don't want to poke holes in the cap because, overall I like it. However, I would ask to see some more photos of the sweatband attachment in a few areas, especially the back left quadrant - there are some stitch track marks it seems.

Also, have a look at the forehead area where the sweatband meets the visor.

It looks as if someone possibly tried to repair the moth hole by filling it with adhesive at some point. Check around the margin of the sweatband and make sure it wasn't used there as well - I may be a bit paranoid, but I see what could be a glue like substance in some places.

It's a good hat and if you are comfortable that the price matches the details sounds good to me.

I had inspected this cap in hand at a show. The cap itself is 100% legit. The flaws that I had observed was that the sweatband had at one point come completly seperated from the cap and is now enitrely attached with glue, there is not a single thread holding it in place, but I believe that the sweatband might very well be the original band to the cap. In addition the sweat diamond is dettached (very comon in these caps), and lastly, I am not certain the chinstrap is period original, it would have to be removed and inspected from the inside. Aside from these points, this is a rare cap, and I feel the fair price reflects the state of condition.

Great info DKNYC71, I knew that had to be adhesive in there. It certainly looked like it but one can never be sure unless you have it in hand.

I can't speak to the chincord, but I will link in some photos from the e-stand thread.

I agree Ben, absolute lunacy. Better to leave it loose until proper restoration can be done, rather than screw it up in such a horrible way.

Original and nice but with evident midification on sweatband which seems as stated glued and reattached.there are some points seller focused well... So he was honest and cleat.

As reported by Benvk it's a common ****ing manner... Seen a lot of times and in all kind of headgears.

While it is always a bummer to see that, in nearly every case I have experienced gluing, it was on a vet-found and/or right-out-of-the-woodwork piece. In other words they didn't know they were performing sacrilege. Sad but acceptable.

Could not agree with you more. Especially some of the super glues that are almost impossible, if not in fact impossible, to remove.
