          the last year of production was 1942. Later is not possible.

            I am not sure I agree with you. Many early caps were reworked and reissued to secondary formations (ie. Osttruppen, HIWIs, and Volksturm). I have handled a number of examples over the years that were not up to the standard of issue headgear, but undeniably original imo. They usually have just a size and late war subdued insignia.

              rework is indeed possible. I meant that ordinary production was canceled in 1942.

                I have had a late Heer sidecap factory produced and dated '44

                    Some of the tropical Hans Brandt sidecaps from the "beehive cache" are rb# and dated '43 also.

                      In spite of the popularity of the m-43, you will see these schiffchens worn until the end of the war, many of them reissued after refurbishing resulting in examples that look non standard in their construction and quality.

                        I have a reworked m34 complete with Statni markings.
                        All standard except half of the skirt height has been removed resulting in a very small area where the cockade would reside.

                        I thought it was a weird variant till an experienced headgear collector enlightened me with the statement "Its a reworked cap".

                          Sounds like one of these caps;

                            I know the ones Tim,

                            with all the numbers. See the image below.

                            I had forgotten about them and I have a couple of them from the good old days when Beehive caps cost NZ $65 which was about US $30 at the time,
