    Heer General Visor

Good morning fellows. Here's the Heer General Visor that Matt had requested to see from the SS Cap thread. I would love to hear opinions on this one.

    Thanks in advance! Dave

Inside. Sorry for the lack of quality on the pictures. I don't have the cap yet so this is what I have. I can get additional pics though.

Odd top panel lining. Reminds me of this one on Oakleaf (KM):

ww2germanhelmet - this cap has several features that don't make it look like a period German-made cap. It doesn't look like the common repros either but the pleats and sb just scream caution for me. Of course, it could be foreign-made or some custom-made example for a Kriegsmarine Admiral's field grey uniform etc... but I personally would doubt that.

Let's assume for a second it is an original... would you ever be able to move it at a price even close to a textbook General's cap? Clearly not!

              Hope that helped...

I agree with Kurt--at best a foreign made hat, at worst a Franky. What is up with the piping just above the wreath?

                  Interesting hat.

Too many unusual features to make a wise purchase, no one would buy it as Kurt says but is it all original? who knows without a hands on. It's certainly well made, not sure why the sponge glued to the sweatband is clean gone now with no evidence of it effecting any other part the cap but these are the details that you check with the hat in your hands. Pleated lining would suggest Pekuro but they don't look quite right either.

Thanks guys for the thoughts. One thing that I noticed was that the backing on the Eagle seems to be dark green. Could that be a Coastal Artillery KM Officer Eagle? I just don't know what to think. The fellow may ship it to me for a closer inspection. I may shoot it up to my buddy Karl S if he does.

Having looked again, this style sweatband is very Bundeswehr.. If the hat turns out to be all TR period, I would be very surprised.

Thanks for the additional photo Ben. Things aren't looking good for this one. I appreciate insight!

I would expect for a Coastal Artillery General (Admiral?) there would be the larger KM wreath, but WH-style ones have been seen before, as well as WH style visors. Could be a French-made visor, but I am not holding my breath.

Hat needs to be UV tested and a burn test to loose threads.

Just remembered the Kustenartillerie Admirals did not use gold bullion piping, so there goes that theory.

Possible a BGS general's visor? One recently sold on ebay.de.
