    Luftwaffe Officer's Cap

Hey Guys. I've had this one for a number of years and decided it's time to move it along. I offered the cap to someone who had a few questions about it, and so I place it here for the grand review.

I bought it about 5 years ago from the Ruptured Duck (the only place I buy my caps for some odd reason). The eagle is sewn through the liner which makes me think the cap was de-nazified at one point. Also looks like the sweatband was re-sewn at the back. Please let me know your thoughts.

Nice looking cap Mike, you could argue about the eagle until the cows come home, as wartime eagles were sewn through the liner a fair bit of the time, it is a nice early eagle, and matches the early wreath and cockade. Probably a period applied eagle. (but I am sure there will be some who say it is postwar because of that sewing).

I love the tarnish on your silver bullion cockade !

The only area that would concern me, is the sweat band looks poorly applied, and may possibly be a replacement, or re-sewn at the rear of the cap.

I agree with Bob, I also like the cap. Is the cockade applied with the same thread as the eagle? That could be an indicator. Anyway, they match very well. The sweatband has been reapplied in my opinion as well - when is probably impossible to say. Any stamps inside the band?

I would say that the eagle has been replaced at some point - not because it's sewn through the liner, but how it is sewn through the liner. I could be wrong, but that's my first thought. Even though by looking at the front of the cap, I don't think you'd know.

I would also concur what Bob is saying about the sweatband - just seems stitched in a way that would indicate some sort of replacement. But the liner doesn't show much wear, so I'm wondering if it was just stored improperly and restitched because of it.
