Has anyone encountered a sweat diamond in a pre 45 SS or army officers visor that lacks the slot for the size or owners name to be slid under the sheild ? this hat is comming from a old collection . The guy is dead . One of the big old time dealers sold it to him in the 80's as good .
This diamond lacks any logo. The lining in the hat is gold silk with a plain one peice dark brown leather sweat band without tooling. The top is made out of tricot ,the grain of the fabric is oriented perfectly on the front and insignia is right as well. I am seeing the hat from photos and dont want to ask for more photos if there is anough here to determine it a 70"s fake .
The sweat sheild is a big flag to me but I havent seen everything ??? Could not find this diamond in beavers book although the exterior of the hat looks like page 135 with a tall peak and fatter piping ,material not as fine ,earlier tarnished insignia . the form is excellent .
The sheild is shaped correctly being rounded towards the back of the hat .
The hat does not appear to have ever been squashed or deformed or wet ( no water marks )although the sheild is deformed/buckeled and wrinkel /bent but not dicolored . It almost looks like water damage but no water marks on the silk . This is not typical in the hats i have owned and handled. I always thought the early plastic material used by the germans in the 1940s is very brittle would crack rather than bend. , again I have never seen a diamond that was deformed and lacks the slot .
Would this early form of plastic be effected by moisture in the air ?
Opinions Please?????
The hat appears almost unworn otherwise ?
I am not full member and cant post photos.
