No point cleaning it as it is deemed to be totally unmessed with in this condition and that is the best way to keep it.

What i would recommend is one of Skipper Greenwades fantastic ajustable hat stretchers to get this cap back into shape. Skipper is a member of the WAF and is highly regarded for the stretchers he manufactures.

Kind of difficult to make out but I'd say you got a fantastic deal! Named and unit ID'd.

It reads something like 2nd Batterie .............

I would be in favour of doing a very light and non invasive cleaning on this. It will help in the long run. The stretchers are great but might be a bit spendy for this cap. A styrofoam head would do a similar task in reshaping it.

Nice cap. If you wanted to clean it up a little, I would recommend just lightly brushing the crown with a soft clothing brush . This is totally non abrasive and will remove dust and dirt from the fabric and brighten it up. Just by looking at the cap, it seems the soiling is not deep and would probably benefit from a good brushing. I would not recommend using any cleaning agent.

Also, as sturmbannfuhrer mentioned, a stretcher would certainly help return it to its natural shape over time.

Going over it slowly with a lint roller does wonders also. Thats what I use quite often. Nice deal
