Hi Leondes,

For future reference, the reasons why the guys who have much more experience than I are saying its fake are: First, the insignia are incorrect..the skull is a panzer skull and the eagle belongs on a political cap, also the next most noticeable give away is the plastic sweat-shield diamond (they often ripple like this one).

I would suggest that you never assume a cap is fake judging by the insignia alone. Here is an original photo of my father for reference. Rules were not always followed.

Great photo! Thank you for sharing. I was certainly not judging the cap based on the insignia alone, I was simply pointing out aspects that I believed to be inconsistent. If you notice, I mentioned the bad sweatshield as a quick indicator, but of course, as NTZ mentioned, there are plenty of other give aways for people who know what they're looking for (the RZM tag, various incorrect materials, etc.)

I understand completely, just suggesting that insignia alone are not always an indication of fake. Here is another.
