It takes a big person to make such an admission publicly; I thank you sir for your comment.

And good Lawd, I am glad I never owned that hat too!

Now, let us get back to those vet acquired hats we would ALL like to see!

    Regards,
    B. N. Singer

      Glenn,

What if the question was asked with no malice? What if the Chicago dealer actually has told potential buyers that the hat was from the Singer collection?

Perhaps the dealer is the spreader of lies?

This isn't mere speculation, I spoke with Ron face to face at the SOS 2 years ago.

        Mr Singer,

The Lord is good, I'm glad the hat was never owned by you too.

Amazing that a long standing member can be suspended for simply asking you a question. Any comment about that?

I had nothing what so ever to do with anyone being suspended; I am afraid you will need to ask the Mods.

It is all hearsay with no proof and in my opinion an attempt to discredit a most valued member. That sort of nonsense is not tolerated here.

Most of this drivel violates our rules and principles. The matter was laid to rest a page ago. But, some have decided to continue it. Will ponder some administrative action.

Not sure Arek. The officer's one at the Max was a 2-button with the skull on the front and the eagle on the side. I am trying to convince the owner to keep it!

Willi, we are now all too scared to post anything more on this thread!

Seriously though, the general atmosphere of doubt about these caps is completely understandable IMO. Period photos are few, original SS Pz trap insignia, even today are still relatively easy to find. I remember buying my first one for $60 and that was only about 7 years ago. Trap that is, not a whole cap. Other issues include the fact that many people have knowledge of reproductions made in the past, although details are sketchy (aren't they always though?) and most seen today have construction details that don't seem correct to knowledgable collectors, whether they wish to divulge those details or not. How am I doing so far Bryon?

The other glaring issue for me is the condition they all seem to be in. Take a regular Heer M43 for example. Search the forum and you will see all sorts in all sorts of condition. Some absolutely knackered, some mint, some in between.

All these SS Pz's seen so far seem to be in lightly worn or unworn condition. None found in rodent destroyed condition, non with the traps hangin off. No, all seem to be nice and neat and in "collectable" condition.

Anyway, at the risk of being accused of adding to the drivel, I'll shut up now until this thread until something new materializes.

Oops, forgot to add. I've seen period footage of SS Pz troops in Arnhem, although a bit fuzzy, I'd say that a lot of them wore black M43's with trap insignia. I think if anyone wanted to really research this further, that might be a good starting point.

                        Embroidered

I agree w/the above comments concerning the cap that started this thread.

I've seen them w/ bevo, embroidered and printed traps, sometimes single button, all hbt lined and some level of distress/aging.

I was told these originated from Eastern Europe.

                        I'm looking forward to 90th light's example

This M43 is part of a grp. brought back by a US 2nd armor vet it came w/ the jacket (Oberscharfuhrer "Das Reich") the trousers and undershirt.

That one is going to cause a lot of controversy.

Lots of life left in this thread for sure.

Not from me, I am too darn tired; still want a look at those, up to now, "mythical" vet acquired M43s though.

I had a cat knap this afternoon so still pretty fresh at 2am.

That cap posted by SJP, even though the photos are small, has so many issues that if it's truly a vet accuired cap, I'm giving up this hobby.
